Aygestin
Drug Uses
Aygestin is used to prevent pregnancy and to treat menstrual disorders and abnormal uterine
bleeding as well as treating endometriosis.
How Taken
Aygestin is prescribed 35mg once daily at the same time each day beginning
on the first day of the menstrual cycle. For abnormal uterine bleeding 2.5mg
to 10mg once a day starting on day 5 of the menstrual cycle through day 25.
For endometriosis 5mg once a day for 14 days with gradual increases up to 15mg once a day.
Warnings/Precautions
Tell your doctor id you are pregnant, nursing or could become pregnant.
Missed Dose
If you are three hours late or more, or miss a one day dose, take it immediately
then resume the normal schedule. If you miss two doses, take one immediately and
use another form of birth control for the next seven days. If taken for
endometriosis, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s near the time for
your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume normal schedule.
Possible Side Effects
Changes in menstrual bleeding pattern, mental depression, skin rash or an
unexpected flow of breast milk may signal serious side effects.
Call your doctor immediately. Less serious side effects include abdominal pain or
cramps, swollen face, ankles or feet, mood changes, mild headache, nervousness and weight gain.
Storage
Store in tightly sealed container and keep away from heat and direct light.
Overdose
No cases of an overdose have ever been reported.
More Information
Check with your doctor if vaginal bleeding continues for an unusually long time
or if your menstrual period has not started within 45 days of the previous one.
