Generic Bactrim
(Generic name: Co-trimoxazole)
Bactrim Uses
Bactrim is used to treat urinary tract infections, ear infections, chronic bronchitis
traveler’s diarrhea and other types of diarrheal disease.
How Taken
Bactrim is typically prescribed 1 double strength tablet twice a day.
Duration of therapy depends on the type of infection and will be determined by your doctor.
Bactrim Precautions
Tell your doctor id you are pregnant, nursing or could become pregnant.
Bactrim has caused birth defects in animals. Human studies have not been done.
Missed Dose
Take it as soon as you remember. If it’s near the time for your next dose,
skip the missed dose and resume normal schedule.
Bactrim Side Effects
Skin rash, sore throat, fever, joint pain, shortness of breath, pale skin,
reddish spots on the skin, unusual bleeding or bruising are all serious side
effects and you should call your doctor immediately.
Less serious side effects include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, itching and hives.
Storage
Store in tightly sealed container and keep away from heat and direct light.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor immediately.
Symptoms might include loss of appetite, depression, confusion,
altered mental status, blood in the urine or yellow skin or eyes.
More Information
Since some patients experience increased sensitivity to sunlight,
take preventative measures. Wear sunscreen, protective clothing and avoid exposure to the sun.
