Generic Ceftin
(Generic name: Cefuroxime)
Ceftin Uses
Ceftin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections including those of the
nose, tonsils, throat, skin and soft tissues, genitourinary tract and the
respiratory tract, blood, bones, joints and other organs.
Ceftin is also used to treat gonorrhea and
is given prior to some surgeries to prevent infection.
How Taken
Adults are to take 125mg to 500mg every 12 hours. Children 3 months to
12 years are to take 125mg tablets every 12 hours.
Ceftin Precautions
Avoid alcohol while taking this drug and do not drive or operate machinery
until you determine how this drug will affect you. Those who are allergic
to penicillin may have equally serious allergic reactions to ceftin.
Missed Dose
Take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time for your next dose,
skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule.
Ceftin Side Effects
Severe allergic reaction (such as breathing difficulties, confusion, hives,
itching, swelling of the face and throat, sweating and lightheadedness) severe
stomach pain and cramps, fever, and severe, sometimes bloody diarrhea are all
serious side effects and your doctor should be notified immediately.
Storage
Store in tightly sealed container and keep away from heat, moisture and direct light.
Keep the liquid form refrigerated, but don·t allow it to freeze.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, seek medical treatment immediately. Symptoms might include
seizures, severs abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, vomiting.
More Information
Stopping Ceftin prematurely may slow your recovery or lead to a rebound infection in which
heartier strains of bacteria survive and multiply, leading to a more serious and drug-resistant infection.
It is important to take Ceftin for the entire treatment period.
