Generic Cordarone
(Generic name - Amiodarone)
Cordarone Uses
Cordarone is used to prevent and treat heartbeat irregularities, including atrial
fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.
How Taken
Adults are to take 800 to 2,400my per day in three or four equally divided doses at first,
then 600 to 800mg per day for one month. After thirty days, 200 to 400mg per day.
Cordarone Precautions
If you are over the age of 60, side effects may be more severe.
Thyroid problems (both hypo and hyper) as well as walking difficulty, numbness,
tingling, trembling or weakness in the hands and feet are likely to develop.
Proceed with caution until you are sure how the drug affects you.
Missed Dose
Skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule.
Cordarone Side Effects
Serious side effects should be reported to your doctor immediately.
These include coughing, shortness of breath, increased palpitations and loss of voice, though rare.
Seek immediate medical attention if you develop nausea or vomiting, yellow-tinged skin or
eye as this is typically an indication of serious liver problems.
Notify your doctor as well if such symptoms arise.
Storage
Store in tightly sealed container and keep away from heat moisture and direct light.
Overdose
Symptoms such as seizure, irregular or very slow heart beat and loss of
consciousness indicate an overdose and should be treated with immediate medical attention.
More Information
To screen for early side effects, most patients should have regular blood tests
for liver, thyroid and pulmonary function and have eye exams at least once a year.
Do not stop taking the medication without instruction from your doctor to do so.
