(Generic name: Carvedilol)
Coreg Uses
Coreg is used for treating high blood pressure and congestive heart failure by
blocking receptors of the adrenergic nervous system in which adrenalin is active.
How Taken
Coreg is usually taken twice a day in dosages ranging from 6.25mg to 25mg twice a day.
For congestive heart failure, t he dose will range from 3.25mg twice a day to a maximum
daily dose of 25mg twice a day in people weighing less than 187 pounds and 50mg twice a
day for those persons weighing more than 187 pounds.
Coreg Precautions
Coreg should be taken with food since this in creases the amount of absorbed drug that
reaches the heart and arteries. Stopping and changing doses of Coreg should be done under
the direction of a physician since this can result in serious cardiac complications.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose,
skip the dose and resume your regular dosage schedule.
Coreg Side Effects
The most common side effects are dizziness, fluid accumulation, decrease in heart rate,
diarrhea and a rapid decrease in blood pressure when changing positions and fainting.
Storage
Should be stored at room temperature and kept away from direct light.
Overdose
Symptoms of an overdose of Coreg include a sudden drop in blood pressure, heart palpitations,
dizziness, difficulty breathing, and fainting.
More Information
Caution is advised when taking Coreg. Tell your doctor if you are taking other drugs such
as Quinaglute, Prozac or Paxil as these drugs might block the elimination of Coreg.
