Generic Decadron
(Generic name: Dexamethasone)
Decadron Uses
Decadron is sued to treat skin rash and inflammation.
Also used in oral surgery to reduce swelling, pain and redness.
How Taken
Topical gels are available and should be applied 2 to 3 times per day in 0.1% strength.
Aeorsols can be given at 0.01% to 0.04% strength 2 to 4 times per day.
Decadron Precautions
Side effects may be more likely and more severe in elderly patients; therapy with topical
corticosteroids should be brief and infrequent. Do not use this medication around the area of they eyes.
Only apply to affected area.
Missed Dose
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose,
skip the missed does and resume your normal schedule.
Decadron Side Effects
While no serious side effects are associated with Decadron, burning, itching, irritation
at the site, redness or dryness, acne, stinging and cracking of the skin, numbness or
tingling in the extremities may occur. With prolonged use blistering and pus near hair
follicles, unusual bleeding or bruising, darkening or prominence of small surface veins
and an increased susceptibility to infection may occur.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat and direct light.
Overdose
No specific symptoms.
More Information
Do not mix topical decadron with other products such as colognes or aftershaves since
this may cause dryness and irritation. Do not bandage or wrap the medicated area of
the skin without special instructions from your doctor.
