Generic Differin
(Generic name: Adapalene)
Differin Uses
Differin is used to treat acne. Although it is unknown exactly how it works,
it appears to bind with specific receptors in skin cells in a way that
encourages the formation of normal skin cells and discourages the formation of acne lesions.
How Taken
Topical treatments are to be applied in a thin film of Differin once a day,
usually at bedtime to affected skin areas.
Differin Precautions
Anyone with a history of allergic reaction to Differin should not use this medication.
The acne may appear to worsen temporarily during the first few weeks of differin therapy.
Marked improvement should be noticed in 8 to 12 weeks.
Missed Dose
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose,
skip the missed does and resume your normal schedule.
Differin Side Effects
While no serious side effects are associated with Differin, burning, itching,
irritation at the site, redness or dryness, may occur immediately after application.
Skin irritation and sunburn as well as flare-ups of acne can occur during the
first month of treatment and then decrease in frequency and severity.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat and direct light.
Overdose
Excessive application of Differin may lead to redness, pain and peeling of the skin.
More Information
The decision to stop using the drug should be made by your doctor.
It should not b e applied to cuts, abrasions, scaly or flaky skin.
The extremes of winter weather, including high winds can cold temperatures
can cause extra skin irritation and dryness.
