Generic Effexor
(Generic name: Venlafaxine)
Drug Uses
Effexor XR (extended release)
is used to treat the symptoms associated with major
depression by balancing levels of brain chemicals linked to mood, emotions and mental state.
How Taken
Initial dose should not exceed 75mg per day. Gradually, the dose may be
increased by your doctor to a maximum of 375mg per day.
Effexor Precautions
DO not drive or engage in dangerous activity until you know how Effexor XR will affect you.
Effexor XR can cause an elevation in blood pressure.
Therefore, blood pressure must be monitored regularly,
especially during the first few months of therapy.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it is 2 hours until your next dose.
In this case, skip the missed does and resume your normal schedule.
Effexor Side Effects
Extreme headache, changes in or blurred vision, decreased sexual ability and desire,
difficulty urinating, itching, skin rash, chest pain, changes in moods or mental
state and extreme drowsiness or fatigue should be reported to your doctor immediately
as these are serious side effects and warrant an adjustment in dosage.
Fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety, dry mouth, changed send of taste,
loss of appetite, chills, constipation and stomach gas or pain along with
unusual dreams are less common side effects.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat and direct light.
Keep syrup in refrigerator but do not allow it to freeze.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose has occurred, seek medical treatment immediately.
Symptoms of an overdose will be extreme fatigue.
More Information
It is imperative that you NOT stop taking this drug without the specific consent of your doctor.
Blinding and debilitating headaches can occur as well as blurred vision and manic/depressive swings in mood.
