Generic Eldepryl
(Generic name: Selegiline)
Eldepryl Uses
Eldepryl is used to treat Parkinson’s disease, in combination with levodopa/carbidopa.
Eldepryl is also used to treat symptoms which occur following infection of or injury to the
central nervous system because of damage to blood vessels in the brain.
How Taken
Adults should take 5mg twice daily. This drug should not be used by children.
Eldepryl Precautions
Adverse reactions may be more likely and severe in older people. The medication
should be used with caution by patients in this age group.
This drug may cause drowsiness and confusion. Therefore, do not drive or operate
machinery until you know how this drug will affect you.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it is 2 hours until your next dose.
In this case, skip the missed does and resume your normal schedule.
Eldepryl Side Effects
Dizziness, low blood pressure (causing dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting or confusion)
involuntary muscle movements, hearth rhythm abnormalities are all considered serious
side effects and should be reported to your doctor.
Nausea, dry mouth and palpitations along with drowsiness are less common side effects.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat and direct light.
Keep syrup in refrigerator but do not allow it to freeze.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose has occurred, seek medical treatment immediately.
Symptoms of an overdose will be dizziness, fainting, confusion, delirium and abdominal pain.
More Information
Without levodopa/carbidopa, this drug has no known benefit.
Caution is advised when taking Eldepryl. Consult your doctor if you have a
change in your mental state, significant heart disease, peptic ulcer disease,
or wheezing or feelings of tightness in the chest.
