Furosemide
Drug Uses
Furosemide is used to reduce fluid accumulation that leads to swelling and breathlessness
in patients with heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver and kidney disease.
How Taken
20 to 600mg per day. Tablets and solution dosages are given in 1, 2, or 3 divided doses daily.
Injections are to be given in divided doses every 2 to 3 hours.
Furosemide Precautions
There are no special precautions or warnings.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it is near your next dose.
In this case, skip the missed does and resume your normal schedule.
Possible Side Effects
Skin rash, hives, intense itching, swelling of the mouth and throat, breathing
difficulty, heart rhythm irregularities, lightheadedness and unusual bleeding or
bruising should be reported to your doctor. Muscle cramps or pain are considered
less serious side effects. Potassium depletion may lead to heart palpitations and weakness.
Fluid depletion may lead to dizziness, especially when changing positions.
Furosemide Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat and direct light.
Keep the liquid forms in refrigerator but do not allow freezing.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose has occurred, seek medical treatment immediately.
Symptoms of an overdose can include weakness, lethargy, mental confusion and muscle cramps.
More Information
To prevent Frusemide from interfering with sleep, take it in the morning.
You may have to take a potassium supplement or consume foods or fluids high in
potassium while taking this drug. Follow your doctor’s order precisely.
