Generic Lamictal
(Generic name: Lamotrigine)
Lamictal Uses
Lamictal is used to control certain kinds of seizures in the treatment of epilepsy.
Lamictal is generally taken in conjunction with other anticonvulsants.
How Taken
Adults should take 200mg to 900mg per day in divided doses. Some patient may require high doses.
A low dose is used to start, the dose is gradually increased by your doctor.
The increase in dose is very slow if you are also taking Valproic acid.
Lamictal Precautions
Adverse reactions may be more likely and more severe in elderly patients.
Lower dosages may be warranted. This drug may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
Do not drive until you determine how this drug will affect you. Avoid alcohol.
Missed Dose
Take Lamictal as you remember you missed a dose. However, if it is near the time of your
next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule.
Do not double the next dose unless advised by your doctor.
Lamictal Side Effects
Fever, sore throat, swollen glands, red or purple point-like rash on the skin or
mucous membranes, blistering or peeling skin lesion, weakness, confusion, lethargy
or seizures may be a sign of a potentially fatal blood reaction or other complication.
Call your doctor right away.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container away from heat and direct light.
Overdose
Severe clumsiness and unsteadiness, severe dizziness or drowsiness, extremely slurred
speech, severe, unusual rapid, side-to-side, or rolling eye movements, rapid heartbeat
or loss of consciousness and dry mouth are indicators of an overdose.
Seek emergency services at once.
More Information
Your doctor may want you to wear a medical bracelet or carry an identification
card saying that you are taking Lamictal.
