Leukeran
Drug Uses
Leukeran is used to treat some types of cancer, especially leukemia and lymphoma.
More specifically, Leukeran is used to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia and Hodgkin’s disease.
How Taken
Initial dose is 0.1 to 0.2mg per 2.2 pounds of body weight daily for three to six weeks.
Maintenance dose will depend on white blood cell counts.
Warnings/Precautions
Adverse reactions may be more likely and more severe in elderly patients.
Those taking Leukeran should not drink alcohol, but the drug will not impair the
ability to participate in activities that require mental alertness.
Missed Dose
Take Leukeran as you remember you missed a dose. However, if it is near the time
of your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule.
Do not double the next dose.
Possible Side Effects
Black, tarry stools, blood-tinged urine or stools, cough ro hoarseness, fever, chills,
lower back pain or pain in flanks, painful, difficult urination, small red spots on
the skin, bleeding from gums, nose, or other unusual places, easy bruising and shortness
of breath may mean that normal blood veels and special blood-clotting cells have been
affected, or that normal immune cells have been affected and an infection is
developing somewhere within the body. See yur doctor right away.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container away from heat and direct light.
Overdose
Fever, chills, unusual bleeding, seizures and agitation may indicate an overdose.
Seek emergency medical services immediately.
More Information
Infection is the single greatest threat to people receiving chemotherapy.
Leukeran may lower your ability to resist infection by lowering the number of white blood cells in the blood.
Therefore, do not receive any vaccinations without doctor’s approval.
