Generic Lopid
(Generic name: Gemfibrozil)
Lopid Uses
Lopid is used to treat high levels of blood triglyceride. Usually prescribed after
other treatments, including diet, weight loss, exercise, and control of diabetes
fail to lower triglyceride levels adequately.
How Taken
Adults should 600mg twice per day. Usually taken 30 to 60 minutes before morning and evening meals.
Lopid Precautions
Adverse reactions are more likely and more severe in older patients.
Lopid should not impair your ability to perform tasks such as driving safely.
Alcohol intake should be limited because it can raise triglyceride levels.
Missed Dose
Take Lopid as soon as you remember you missed a dose. However, if it is within two
hours of your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule.
Do not double the next dose.
Lopid Side Effects
Muscle aches and tenderness, crampy abdominal pain, especially in the area under
the ribs on the right sides, with nausea and vomiting and decreased urine output
are serious side effects and should be treated. Diarrhea, nausea and gas as
less common and must be tolerated.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container away from heat and direct light.

Because Lopid has potential side effects, it is important that you maintain these

Lopid increases the chances of gallbladder, liver and pancreas problems.
