Generic Lopressor
(Generic name: Metoprolol)
Lopressor Uses
Lopressor is used to treat mild to moderate high blood pressure or angina.
It is also used to prevent or control heartbeat irregularities.
How Taken
For high blood pressure or angina, adults should take 100 to 400mg a day in divided doses.
For treatment after a heart attach, the initial dose is 50mg every 6 hours, followed by
a maintenance dose of 100mg or more twice a day for as long as the doctor recommends.
Lopressor Precautions
Adverse reactions may be more likely and more severe in older patients.
Missed Dose
Take Lopressor as soon as you remember. If it’s within four hours of your next dose,
skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule.
Lopressor Side Effects
Shortness of breath, wheezing, irregular or slow heartbeat, chest pain or tightness,
swelling of the ankles, feet and lower legs, mental depression and drowsiness are
serious side effects of taking Lopressor. Seek medical treatment immediately.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container away from heat and direct light.
Overdose
Unusually slow or rapid heartbeat, severe dizziness or fainting, poor circulation in
the hands and breathing difficulty with seizures are indicators of an overdose and
should be treated by a medical professional.
